FALCOM (FALCOM GmbH and FALCOM USA, Inc.) today announced the release of the world?s first embedded USB wireless modem for GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.

Samba 75 is a plug-and-play device with built-in antenna that offers Quad band GPRS and EDGE connectivity with a USB port, making it ideal for those who want to access wireless networks on PCs and laptops without PCMCIA card slots.

SAMBA 75 wireless USB modem present new opportunities to offer fast wireless connections in an alternate form factor. The increased speed of EDGE enables customers to work more easily with larger files and offers faster access/browsing and Web-based applications and connectivity to markets that previously had no way of accessing it.

The Quad Band GPRS/EDGE embedded modem provides a powerful, reliable, wireless engine that can be connected into a wide variety of mobile devices and offers always-on data, and messaging functionality. EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) is the second step in the evolution of GSM to 3G. EDGE will allow data speeds up to 384 kbps. The EDGE allows the advantages of GPRS to be fully explored, with fast connection set-up and higher bandwidth than traditional GSM technology. The combination of GPRS and EDGE will also result in much improved utilization of the radio network.

SAMBA 75 is fully type approved now being deployed and is offered to the OEM, distribution or vertical consumer markets.
